Procrastination

click http://louisvillecsa.com/danyreweg Will Rogers said ‘Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there’.  He’s right.  So many times we put off doing what needs to be done, for a variety of good reasons.  Maybe we think the time isn’t right, we might make the wrong decision, we should just do x, y and z first, or we’ll probably make a mess of it so why start.

click here There’s an old Chinese proverb that says, ‘The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step’.  That is very true.  Take someone living in an abusive relationship.  They know that things need to change but they hope that the other person will change and then they don’t need to do anything and life will be good.  But all the time that big cloud is hanging over them, and doing nothing about it lets it grow bigger and stronger.

see I know from personal experience that you can put off making a decision for a very long time.  You live with the abuse and it eats away at your confidence and self esteem, making you feel even less empowered to deal with the situation.  With every day that passes your self belief and motivation gets lower and your feeling of helplessness increases.

Woman took Viagra Here’s a thought if you are in that situation – what is the worst thing that can happen if you call our helpline and talk to someone?  You can do it anonymously, you can find out what if…….often all the things that seem insurmountable are easily resolved if you have the right information, support and advice.

We have a whole range of support services that we  can offer you – from counselling to support for your children and legal advice.  We can help you to come to your own decisions in your own time.  Sometimes you just need someone alongside you to cheer you on as you find your way forward.  Once you take the first step you start undoing all those feelings of helplessness that keep you trapped.

Why not make today you take that first step.  There will still be a thousand miles journey ahead but you will have started making it, and every step will leave you feeling stronger and more empowered.

All of our groups resume shortly so ring the Hope Centre if you would like to book in for the Self Help Group or our Friday Lifeskills Group.  Creches are provided and all these services are free to you.  Don’t procrastinate any longer – make today your day!
