can help our cause. One of the really important
things about volunteering is that it helps to build
skills, and those skills can lead to a great deal of
fulfillment and sometimes even to paid work.
You may wish to try more than one in order to decide
where you best fit. You may choose to carry on with
more than one role. All of these roles will require
a degree of self-sufficiency, confidence and the
ability to organise.Because of the changing needs of the
organisation, some flexibility is required in these
roles. It may be that some days we need
everyone to pull together to carry off a big
project. Other days may be quiet and some
initiative is needed to find a useful task to carry
out. The volunteers that have had most
satisfaction from their time with Pathway have
been those who have been able to be flexible in
the tasks they carry out.
This requires a volunteer to train and then work within the helpline service. This will involve, at your convenience, working evenings, weekends, overnights or day shifts. You will be accepting calls from domestic abuse sufferers, offering them emotional support and sign-posting them on to appropriate services, whether internally or externally. The helpline will initially be answered with supervision in the ISC, and thereafter can be diverted to a mobile or a home landline.
Children’s Team Volunteers
Our children’s team requires volunteers to work alongside qualified staff, assisting with roles that include crèches, youth groups and outings. Due to the fact that we are currently OFSTED registered, all children’s team volunteers will be required to show that they are suitable for the role and will need to provide a photocopy of their childcare qualifications. For the outings, volunteers will need to be able to drive and have access to their own transport and be available evenings and weekends. For crèche work, no transport is necessary and usually operates 10.30-12.30 on Mondays & Thursdays (occasionally other days – please enquire)
Fundraising and Marketing Volunteers
A team of volunteers who are able to support Pathway by running stalls and collecting money at local events, helping with the setting up and organising of Pathway events, collecting and distributing collection boxes, writing to companies asking for sponsorship and donations, sitting on the fundraising sub-committee and representing Pathway at local community events with stands promoting our work and services. Evenings/weekends/some daytimes.
