Canada Valtrex over the counter We are delighted to announce that Pathway Project has been awarded a grant in the Big Lottery Empowering Women and Girls Programme. We listened to our service users’ greatest concerns about the domestic and sexual abuse they suffered, and they were most worried about how long it takes people to ask for help, and the impact it has if they first people they reach out to do not react in a sensitive and supportive way.
We are going to use the grant to offer greater consistency in our Helpline service, with a Helpline Co-ordinator responsible for the operation of the helpline and the effective use of volunteers and peer mentors who are trained to provide an effective and supportive service. We will have stronger volunteer management and training programmes so that we can offer skill building and employability to student placements, volunteers and women who have used our services and want to help others.
We will also be expanding our Early Intervention Work. This means that we will have a worker who will follow up every police call out to a domestic incident with a call and offer of services, help and support, within 24 hours of the incident. We have this service in Tamworth and it has been highly effective and helped us to reach people who would probably never have called us for help. We will be bringing this service into Lichfield now to ensure we can do the same for Lichfield women and girls.
In addition to all of this our project, which is called ‘First Steps’, will also allow us to employ a Young Women’s Worker. This will mean that we can effectively support young girls who have been groomed or are at risk of sexual exploitation. We can also work with young mums or girls who are particularly vulnerable and need an additional support to help them to cope with additional difficulties they may be experiencing in their relationships. This role will also allow us to work preventatively in educating young women to be able to recognise unhealthy relationship traits and to keep themselves safe.
We want to say a big thank you to Big Lottery for their support and for the amazing way that this fund is operating. We also want to say thank you to the service users who took part in an arts project last year, and wrote a song about their experience called ‘Take the First Step’. They were the inspiration for the project development and their voices are a thread that runs right through the project.
Our CEO, Kathy Coe, said this: ‘I am beyond excited about the opportunity that this funding is giving us, to make sure that every contact counts and that no woman or girl gets missed when they need our help. We want that first call to make a difference and lead to an empowering service that changes lives. We want to lead people to freedom and safety and this grant is going to help to ensure that we do. Big Lottery have had the vision and insight into both the needs of women and girls, and the gap in funding and services that exists. They have provided this amazing funding stream and we can hardly wait to start changing the terrible situations that so many women and girls face. We will be turning more victims into survivors. Thank you so much for making this possible’.
